PAPA’S PRINTS
A personal project.
My father, a first-generation American raised in Queens, was an aspiring photographer in his late 20s and early 30s but never became a professional. It wasn’t until after taking a two-year trip on his motorcycle around the world in 1968 that he picked up his first camera. He shot many jazz musicians such as Ray Charles and Duke Ellington but loved to capture candids of average people and daily life all around the U.S. and abroad.
GOAL
He had an eye I felt the world deserved to see.
HOW
The collection includes hundreds of 35mm, medium format negatives, and slides from the late 60s and early 70s. Every so often, I review them and make selects.
RESULTS
My goal is eventually to sell them and donate the profits to a charity.
WHO
Photography by Charles Iulo.
